QM18 Wakatipu
The Wakatipu 1:250 000 geological map covers 24 000 km2 of Otago, northern Southland, and South Westland in the South Island of New Zealand.Topography varies from flat-topped ranges and intervening basins in Central Otago, to the glaciated mountains of northwest Otago and northern Fiordland. The Te Anau depression lies in the southwest, and low hills on the northwestern coast lie adjacent to a narrow continental shelf.
The active Alpine Fault crosses the northwest corner of the map area and forms the Australan-Pacific plate boundary.
