The Haute Route—also known as the High Route or Mountaineers' Route—traverses the breathtaking French and Swiss Alps. Originally conceived as a summer mountaineering route in the mid-nineteenth century by members of the English Alpine Club, it was first referred to as "The High-Level Route."
In 1911, a group successfully established a winter route from Bourg St. Pierre to Zermatt on skis. Following their achievement, the route's name was translated into French, and the term "Haute Route" became widely recognized. Since then, it has earned a legendary reputation among skiers and ski mountaineers as a classic winter/spring adventure. Additionally, the non-technical Walker's Haute Route has grown in popularity, becoming a classic in its own right.

While the term "Haute Route" has been applied to various multi-day, hut-to-hut alpine tours, the "Chamonix-Zermatt Haute Route" remains the original. Whether you choose to explore it with skis or hiking boots, this journey promises an adventure like no other.
