The Raukumara 1:250,000 geological map covers a land area of 11,700 km², representing the easternmost part of the North Island, New Zealand.

Key geographical features include:

  • The Raukumara Range in the west, characterized by forest-covered, deeply dissected terrain.
  • Incised, erosion-prone hill country flanking the range to the east and south.
  • Alluvial terraces and floodplains present in major catchments such as:
    • Wharekahika
    • Awatere
    • Waipaoa
    • Mata
    • Hikuwai
    • Uawa
    • Wairoa
    • Hangaroa
    • Ruakituri rivers

Additionally:

  • Marine terraces are well developed along the coast.
