Brand: NZTopo50

Topo50 is the official topographic map series utilized by New Zealand emergency services. Topographic maps provide detailed and accurate graphic representations of features visible on Earth's surface.

The Topo50 map series delivers topographic mapping for the New Zealand mainland and Chatham Islands at a 1:50,000 scale, showcasing geographic features in detail. These maps are highly valuable for a wide range of adventures.

Features

  • Geodetic and projection systems:
The Topo50 map series uses the New Zealand Geodetic Datum 2000 (NZGD2000) for coordinates of longitude and latitude, and the New Zealand Transverse Mercator 2000 (NZTM2000) projection. This allows the curved surface of the Earth to be displayed on a flat sheet of paper.

  • Legend key:

    • Reference links indicate warnings or important information.
    • Symbols represent various features on the ground, such as roads, tracks, rivers, lakes, vegetation, fences, buildings, power lines, etc. These symbols are grouped into themes on the legend key (e.g., "roads and tracks," "railways," "relief features").
    • Different scale maps show varying levels of detail, with larger scale maps offering more features.
    • Colour coding: Blue represents water features, black indicates cultural features, and green highlights vegetation features.
  • Back cover:

    • Displays a locality indicator to easily identify where the map sheet fits within the island-wide geographic region.
    • Highlights warnings and important information.
    • Provides references to the LINZ website, includes the product barcode, and invites users to report errors or omissions.
  • Front cover:

    • Redesigned to differentiate it from the Topographic NZMS260 series.
    • Adjacent sheet names are displayed on the reference panel.
    • Includes an awareness panel to identify the latest national map series' first edition.
  • Format:
    A1 portrait size (59.4 x 84.1 cm).

  • Map reading references:
Projection parameters offer information, including scale and grid referencing details.
